Cycling Minds’ home is The Link community cycle hub we have opened in a temporary space owned by Ecocabs in Hexham with their kind support. While this has enabled the project to get up and riding, it is only a meanwhile space and we will soon outgrow it so we are working behind the scenes with Northumberland County Council and other stakeholders to find a permanent home for The Link and have set ourselves ambitious deadlines to achieve this.
The permanent community cycling hub will house a cycle repair shop; larger bike refurbishment service; a refreshments bar; a base for cycling events such as a sportive, cycling festival, film nights, book-signings, and evenings with VIPs and experts; as well as rentable workspaces for cycling-related businesses and meeting and event spaces.
As its name suggests, The Link will provide a base where local community groups such as cycle clubs, charities, sustainable travel campaign groups and cycling-related businesses can meet, share ideas, network and ultimately forge partnerships and synergies that will be mutually beneficial. The Link will therefore contribute to boosting cycle use, developing a cottage cycling industry and promoting sustainable transport and local economic and community revitalisation through a raft of cycling-related services in Hexham and the rest of West Northumberland.
With the ongoing support of institutions such as Northumberland County Council and Hexham Town Council, we are confident we can make this vision a reality, so watch this space!
